What's inside

Most stat apps tell you what happened. Ours tell you what to do about it.

Every Coaches Box app is built around three moments — the game itself, the twenty minutes after it, and the shape of a season as it takes form. Here's what each one gives you.

— During the game

One person, one iPad, and a game that doesn't slow down for you.

Every shot, fully described, in three taps

Tap where the shot went up and the app asks only what it still needs: who shot it, what happened, and who set it up. The pass chain is already tracked, so the most likely assister is waiting pre-selected when the shot falls.

  • Shot type — jump shot, layup, floater, dunk, hook
  • Half court or fast break, tagged on every attempt
  • Made, missed, blocked, or and-one
  • Assist credited automatically when the passer is known

Answers while you can still use them

Most stat tools are record-keepers — you find out what happened on the drive home. These apps put the numbers you need for the next substitution on screen while the ball is still in play.

  • Foul trouble board — who's at three, who's at four, both benches
  • Live possessions and points per possession, both teams
  • Running box score that never stops updating
  • Timeouts, possession arrow, and quarter scoring in one strip

Football is tracked the way football is played

Not as a list of events, but as a march. Every snap is logged with down, distance, and field position, so the drive stays intact instead of dissolving into a pile of individual stats. Tackle and flag, with the rules of each built in.

  • Down-and-distance play-by-play, snap by snap
  • Rush and pass yardage, completions, tackles or flag pulls
  • Both sides of the ball in the same game file
  • Drive-by-drive results as the game unfolds

Shared #10 — say color first

Voice commands — in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse today — let you keep your eyes on the play and call stats as they happen. That banner appears when both teams have a number 10 — the app noticed the collision before you did and told you how to avoid it. Small thing. It only exists because someone stood courtside and hit the problem.

Shot charts that grade the shot, not just the result

Every chart shows makes and misses by zone with a percentage attached. Then it does the thing no other app does: it separates the good shots from the bad ones and totals the points your offense gave away taking shots it shouldn't have.

A 3-for-12 night from a spot you keep going back to isn't bad luck. It's a practice plan.

  • Zone-by-zone makes, misses, and percentage
  • Good shots, bad shots, and points lost to shot selection
  • Half-court and transition efficiency, split out
  • Filter by quarter, half, full game, team, or one player

Game reports you can send to anyone

Every stat side by side, with the better number in each row highlighted, plus the possession-level metrics that usually require a spreadsheet and a free evening. Share it as HTML or export the raw numbers as CSV.

  • Full team comparison — shooting splits, rebounding, turnovers, fouls
  • Possessions and points per possession for both teams
  • Hustle stats in the box score: deflections, charges drawn, plus-minus
  • HTML report to share, CSV to keep

A box score with the columns coaches actually argue about

Starters separated from the bench, shooting broken out by twos, threes, and free throws, and plus-minus per player. Deflections sit right next to points, because the kid who doesn't score and changes the game deserves a number too.

Field position charts for both sides of the ball

Where your offense actually moves the ball, and where it stalls. Where your defense gives ground. The same location logic behind the shot charts, applied to a field instead of a court.

Pair it with the play-call data and the picture gets specific fast: this look works between the twenties and dies in the red zone.

— Across the season

One game is a story. Twenty games is the truth.

Season rollups

Every game you track rolls into season totals and averages automatically — no re-entry, no spreadsheet, no end-of-year scramble. Shooting trends, possession efficiency, and team tendencies build themselves as the season goes.

It's also how you find the pattern you'd never spot from one night: the quarter you always fade in, the zone that's been quietly killing your offense since December, the play call that's been losing you a yard a snap since week two.

Individual player reports

A single page per player: their season line, their shooting map, their trend across games. It's the handout for a parent meeting, the evidence in a playing-time conversation, and the thing a junior sends to a college coach.

Players believe numbers about themselves in a way they don't believe a speech.

The plays you draw are the plays you track.

Football is the only Coaches Box app with a playbook built into it — and the playbook isn't a separate drawing tool bolted on the side. It's wired straight into the stats.

Call a play from your own playbook and the result is logged against that play. Which means at the end of the night you can answer a question no other stat app can even ask: which of my plays actually work?

Yards per call. Success rate by down and distance. The play you love that's averaging two yards, and the one you've almost stopped calling that's your best snap on the card.

And because the playbook lives in the same app as the scouting module, next week's opponent gets charted on the same canvas your own plays are drawn on.

All of it runs on your iPad. None of it leaves.

No accounts, no cloud sync, no signal required — which matters, because the gyms where you need this most are the ones with no bars and no guest wifi. Your roster is yours, your game data is yours, and the only thing that ever leaves the device is the report you choose to send.
